Belize - The Caribbean Jewel

Belize, formerly known as British Honduras, is located on the Caribbean Coast of northern Central America. This little paradise combines enchanting sceneries with the Mayan and Caribbean culture. Picturesque rivers, untouched jungles and cascading waterfalls wind from the Maya Mountains in the North to the Caribbean Sea in the East of the country. Spectacular limestone caves invite you to canoe, cave tube, and bird watch.

Adventure the pre-Columbian Maya archaeological sites, such as Caracol, Lamanai, Altun Ha, Xunantunich and Lubaantun. Explore mountainous forests, fertile hills and beautiful sand beaches. Hundreds of small cayes with palm trees and reefs situated along the Caribbean Coast invite you to kayak, swim, snorkel, fish and dive. Belize’s coast boasts the spectacular Barrier Reef, the longest live coral formation in the Western Hemisphere and the second longest in the world.

It is home to a large diversity of plants, coral species, fishes and reef sharks and a diverse ecosystem. Dive the Great Blue Hole at Lighthouse Reef, one of the most outstanding dive sites of the world.

Belize is a country alive with hundreds of bird species and exotic animals, including the piranhas, jaguars, ocelots, tapirs and anteaters. It is home to an expected 4,000 species of flowering plants, including over 730 tree species and more than 280 orchid species. For these reasons, Belize has been called "a Garden of Eden".

The combination of history, colorful towns and villages, Mayan ruins, extraordinary fauna and flora, beautiful sceneries and friendly people make Belize a fascinating and unique country.
